I'm Mariya and this is my portfolio website. My work is diverse: covering commercial and experiemental websites, print and training manuals media to 3D objects. I'm interested in graphic and web design as presentation medium - taking raw ideas and information, organizing them, finding a creative approach to present them to the public, and delivering with a wow factor(I try:).

I'm inspired by emotions that take over me when I realize the potential of an idea; how much impact it can have when presented and an interesting and effective manner. I always strive to have a conceptual angle to each of my works because it makes them that much more interesting.

My B.F.A. at Concordia University in Design and Computation Arts and my D.E.C. at Vanier College in Document Design and Multimedia Technology is the base that set my practice and understanding graphic and web design.

Marise Petite and Marise, founded in 1978, operate specialized women's clothing boutiques located in 26 locations in the provinces of Quebec and Nova Scotia. The chain provides one stop shopping in a boutique style environment and pride Themselves on courteous and personalized service combined with a comprehensive collection of women's ready to wear fashion at moderate to better price points.

Designer's task: Create website for a fashion company that would reflect it's boutique style enviroment, that should showcase its understand of high style, and that would position them shoulder to shoulder with other competitors on the Quebec market.

The Flash based interactive website explores the theme of mirrors in fictional literature and folklore. Using Actionscript 3.0, a 3D illusion interface is created, which gives to the piece a feeling of being in a museum. The color theme brings out the element of mystery and the macabre in parallel with unifying the components.

I have periodically worked on e-mail marketing campaings. Some of exampels provided involved creating an e-mail newsletter from zero: coming up with the concept, finding the right selection of product for a photoshoot, working side by side with the photographer on the composition and feel, retouching the photo, putting together a design in the software, and finally finishing up with HTML version of the newsletter.

Hearst Digital Media (Cosmopolitain, Esquire, House Beautiful, The Oprah Magazine, and more), Luxury Link, Olive Dedicated Media are some of the partners that served the following campaigns.

This interactive piece, done in collaboration with Kerri Kenny, focuses on examining the conceptual metaphor of a digital persona. Everyday objects and fashion items are used to mimic the virtual characteristics of the constantly varying online personality. The internet is shown as the real world with multiple layers, because in person we also wear masks just as much.

A series of 3 book jackets inspired by the 3 book titles which are discussed in the fictional novel “The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy” by Douglas Adams. 1. Where God went wrong? 2. Some more of Gods’ greatest mistakes? 3. Who is this God person anyway? The jackets focus on bringing out the symbolic and historical meaning as well as contemporary and environmental and sustainability issues to reflect the titles of the books without the aid of typographical elements.

The designs are inspired by and raise awareness about sustainable methods of transportation: foot, bike and bus. This typography exercise focuses on studying the vernacular type. Multiple letters are selected from random sources to create a word. The letters are then transformed to create a composition with the given selection. The final result hopes to unify all of the typographical elements in distinct and concise manner.
