Mariya Rayda is a 3rd year design student graduating from Concordia University this very year (2009). Her work output is diverse: covering from print, websites and training manuals media to 3D objects for everyday usage. Her interest mainly lies with Web and she is very much inspired by the supernatural and the subconscious which quite often reflect in her work.
Having already completed a Document Design and Multimedia program in Vanier College, M. Rayda has a strong belief in the balance between aesthetics and the conceptual content of design. In addition she aware of the necessity to create designs and products that will be popular on the makret and that will solicitate a desired response.

The Flash based interactive website explores the theme of mirrors in fictional literature and folklore. Using Actionscript 3.0, a 3D illusion interface is created, which gives to the piece a feeling of being in a museum. The color theme brings out the element of mystery and the macabre in parallel with unifying the components.

This interactive piece, done in collaboration with Kerri Kenny, focuses on examining the conceptual metaphor of a digital persona. Everyday objects and fashion items are used to mimic the virtual characteristics of the constantly varying online personality. The internet is shown as the real world with multiple layers, because in person we also wear masks just as much.

A Flash based website for a teeth whitening business that hopes to reflect the freshness and sense of well being that comes with a brighter smile. The playfulness and simplicity of the design speaks of the accessibly and ease with which the procedure of whitening your teeth can be done today.

Dazhong Garments is a garment manufacturer based in China that is looking to expand its horizons and improve its visibility on the web. Its website which showcases the samples of its production and the excellent condition of its factories also allows the viewer to gain perspective into the firms' historical origin while being simple and easy to navigate.

Oxide, a Montreal based international fashion distributor specializes in casual wear for men. Affordable while being trendy in the same time Oxide's clothing situates itself Oxide's its geometrical website, reflecting a masculine approach to fashion.

The clean design and the simplicity of the site hope to promote the trends of the latest collections and facilitate online experience with pleasant visuals.

Computer rendered window derived from creators’ individual personality. The usage of strong colours, fluidity and movement presented in the piece highlights the emotionality of the author.

A series of 6 tarot cards and a jacket. Limitation of the design in terms of gender elements and symbolic content, as well as the usage of shapes and vivid colours helps understand the meaning of each tarot card in an objective way without the aid of typographical components.

Book jacket inspired by the novel. The textures and the typography of the design for the cover of the classic hope to show its mystery through some elements of the setting where the story takes place.

A series of 7 greeting cards that come together to create a united composition. The hand drawn typography, the richness of colour and the playful illustration add to the warmth and positive energy that comes with a greeting card.
2007/11X17 in
Poster, ticket and program for a BDC Case Challenge event at Vanier College hope to illustrate the tension and the ready for action spirit that takes place in the competition. The basic colour scheme of this series comes from the honest and direct approach of marketing strategies that would be tested during the event.

Poster and card for an exhibtion of works done by the youth that participated in the Dans la Rue and DESTA Concordia Program.The concept hopes to illustrate the coming together of all the hard work and creativity of the youth and mentors to make the program work. Collaboration with Kerri Kenny.
2008/7 X8.5X11 in
Collage series (7 pieces) using magazine cutouts and hand rendering that expresses the themes of time, play, home, information, self, nostalgia and transformation. Attention to detail and the compositional elements of each piece allow the portraying of the feeling which comes with each theme rather than its literal meaning.

A 16 pages book inspired by the debate of Milton Glaser vs Rem Koolhaas. The book includes original graphics in form of collages created to illustrate personal responses of Glaser’s dialogue. The subject of design and designers in the role that they play in the consumer society surfaces in the illustrations with aid of typographical messages and magazine cutouts. The book is bound with the aid if thread and glue.

Development of a visual identity for a four star fictional hotel situated on a shore of an ocean. The package includes a logo, a business card, a letterhead, a mini brochure, a booklet with room description and a door hang. The packages’ simple yet elegant style deriving from the seahorse creature reflects the philosophy of the establishment bringing its clientele a state-of-the-art service at an affordable price.

An accordeon booklet on the subject of self esteem that uses 2 different texts integrated together in Russian and English to briefly discuss the topic. The graphic elements illustrate the content in a simple and sometimes literal way. The form of the accordeon mimics the connective train of thoughts that lead to decrease or increase an individuals’ self esteem.
2007/ Wood and metal
The object created using wood, metal and a simple rotating mechanism serves to store kitchen utensils in a playful and accessible way. Its polished wooden surface and elegant utensil holders try to fit in with the contemporary kitchen style while retaining the uniqueness through its natural material, and its “fun factor” through its form.
2008/ 3 book jackets
A series of 3 book jackets inspired by the 3 book titles which are discussed in the fictional novel “The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy” by Douglas Adams. 1. Where God went wrong? 2. Some more of Gods’ greatest mistakes? 3. Who is this God person anyway? The jackets focus on bringing out the symbolic and historical meaning as well as contemporary and environmental and sustainability issues to reflect the titles of the books without the aid of typographical elements.

Development of a symbol that could be used for a yoga school with a specific concentration: mudras. This branch of yoga teaching focuses on the hands to channel energy in order to achieve harmony. Though its form and composition the symbol strives to present the business in an innovative and recognizable way.
2008/
Collaboration of t-shirt design with Melissa Reis and Valerie Bouvrette for the Concordia Allego program. The designs are inspired by and raise awareness about sustainable methods of transportation: foot, bike and bus. My individual focus in this collaboration was the exploration of bicycle tracks pattern and texture.
2007/Collage and manipulation
This typography exercise focuses on studying the vernacular type. Multiple letters are selected from random sources to create a word. The letters are then transformed to create a composition with the given selection. The final result hopes to unify all of the typographical elements in distinct and concise manner.
